HAVING YOUR LOINS GIRT ABOUT WITH TRUTH (Ephesians 6:14)
Examining the Full Armour of God - What Does It Mean to Be Girt About With Truth?

The first piece of armor to be placed on the Christian warrior is the loins being girt about with truth. A Christian Warrior is any born again Christian for if one is truly born again, then one will have also volunteered to be part of the Lord’s army in the greatest war of all time “for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]” (Ephesians 6:12).

What is truth? First and foremost, truth is Jesus. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). To trust implicitly in Jesus and believe on Him for the transformation of character results in all worldly tendencies being replaced with a will dedicated to His way. Then we will be girt about with truth. To try to be friends with the world so as to serve two masters and yet claim to be saved is a deception and a way to leave off this piece of armor.

But that is not the only place to find truth. The Holy Spirit has a job to do. “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come” (John 16:13). And is that just by impressions only? “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17). So not studying the Word or studying it infrequently or having a distaste for a long period of time in listening to the Word especially in a sermon full of the Word, is one way to leave off this piece of armor. By digging deeply into the word, taking it as it reads, and living it is the way to be girt about with truth. In other words, do you have a “Thus Saith the Lord” for what you believe or do you have an “I think” or “I believe” or “My God”? But we are counseled to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Besides, if you want to be a disciple of Jesus, He said, “If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32).

But there is still another location of truth. “Thy righteousness [is] an everlasting righteousness, and thy law [is] the truth” (Psalms 119:142). To cast aside, to alter, to nail it, to do away with, or to lower the purpose of God’s Ten Commandments is to lay aside this piece of armor. In fact, the Bible goes as far as calling these people a name - “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:4). On the other hand, to be girt about with the truth regarding God’s commandments is to know that grace does not do away with the law. In fact, Paul wrote, “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” To obey the law is to show oneself to be a servant of God. To disobey the law is to show oneself to be a servant of Satan.

How important is the truth? “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved” (2 Thessalonians 2:10). People are going to perish because they did not love the truth enough to truly be saved. In fact, Paul wrote a prediction for the church. “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables” (2 Timothy 4:3-4). How do we know this is for the church? These people are listening to teachers and unsound doctrine. That is religion. That is the church.

Is it happening today thereby identifying that we are living in the last days? The following snippets of an article written by Andy Butcher entitled Truth Crisis Threatens Churches' Future, Report Warns - Believers reject moral absolutes for 'what feels right' appeared on the Christian Broadcasting Network web page:

It's not only the world that no longer believes in right and wrong - acceptance of absolute truth is fast disappearing in the church, too. Almost as many Christians are likely to base their moral decisions on what they feel rather than what the Word teaches, according to a new survey.

Leading Christian researcher George Barna has warned of a growing crisis if churches fail to address the drift. "When a majority of Christian adults...as well as three out of four born again teens proudly cast their vote for moral relativism, the Church is in trouble," he said.

"Continuing to preach more sermons, teach more Sunday school classes and enroll more people in Bible study groups won't solve the problem since most of these people don't accept the basis of the principles being taught in those venues," he commented.

"The failure to address this issue at its root, and to do so quickly and persuasively, will undermine the strength of the church for at least another generation, and probably longer."

Barna spoke on the release of a report by his Barna Research Group (BRG). It revealed that among all adults, only 22 percent believed in moral absolutes, while 64 percent thought truth was always relative to the person concerned and their situation. Among interviewees identified as being born again, just 32 percent believed in moral absolutes.

The picture was even gloomier among teen-agers questioned in a parallel inquiry. Eighty-three percent of all teens thought moral truth depended on the circumstances, with just 6 percent believing in absolute truth. Only 9 percent of teens identified as being born again accepted the idea of absolute truth, compared with 4 percent of other teens.

Barna said that the "alarmingly fast decline" of moral foundations among young people had culminated in "a one-word worldview: 'whatever.' The result is a mentality that esteems pluralism, relativism, tolerance and diversity without critical reflection of the implications of particular views and actions."

Christian parents, educators and church leaders need to make the loss of truth a matter of priority if Christians hope to have "any distinctiveness in our culture," he said. "The virtual disappearance of this cornerstone of the Christian faith - that is, God has communicated a series of moral principles in the Bible that are meant to be the basis of our thoughts and actions, regardless of our preferences, feeling or situations - is probably the best indicator of the waning strength of the Christian church in America today."

The BRG study found moral relativism increasing down through the generations. Sixty percent of adults aged 36 and older did not accept absolutes, while 75 percent of those aged 18 to 35 rejected their existence.

Thirteen percent of those interviewed, and 26 percent of those who were born again, based their ethical and moral decision-making on the Bible. The most common grounds cited for decision-making by both adults and teens was "whatever feels right or comfortable."

What is the preacher to do? The Bible says, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:2).

Another important point about the truth is found in a letter to the Ephesus Church. “In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise” (Ephesians 1:13). Being sealed is more important than avoiding the Mark of the Beast because one could be successful in avoiding the mark but not be guaranteed to have the Seal of the Living God, but if one has the seal, they will not have the mark.

Therefore, to believe different things and think we are all right is a grand deception. It is so grand that it is being accepted that Jews do not need to believe in Jesus to be saved, that Muslims can continue in their ways, and that we should not even try to evangelize snake worshippers. It is said that we should only evangelize those that are unchurched, untempled, or unmosqued. It is true that God judges who is saved and who is not of non-Christian faiths and they are not all marked for hell, but he commissioned us specifically to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:15-16). And we are told, “Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins” (James 5:19-20).

But let us take it a step further. “[There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all” (Ephesians 4:4-6). Then why are there hundreds of major denominations and thousands of sects all claiming to be Christian? Somewhere the truth has been altered. To be in unity as Jesus prayed for, “And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we [are]” (John 17:11), was not a mere toleration of other’s beliefs. It would be setting aside all these man made theories and getting the one and only truth. Do not the Father and the Son agree on every matter? Then should not every denomination agree on every matter to fulfill Jesus’ prayer? Both answers are yes. And it starts with the three basic areas of truth - Jesus, Word, and Law.

The Apostle John rejoiced as a unified Christian group accepted the singular truth and not plural “truths”. “I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father” (2 John 1:4). “For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth” (3 John 1:3).

And what is the last day war with the Antichrist like? Is it with nuclear bombs? “And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error” (1 John 4:3-6). No. It is having the true doctrines.

Are we sure it is a doctrinal battle? “For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son” (2 John 1:7-9).

Do you think the doctrinal battle has begun? Has the spirit of Antichrist infiltrated? Is there a spirit of Antichrist that is unwilling to follow the Word of God?

But it is not a matter of knowing for head knowledge but rather living it. “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth” (1 John 3:18). “But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God” (John 3:21). But it is not easy for the unconverted to live it for “the way of truth shall be evil spoken of” (2 Peter 2:2). To slander, to say it is too hard, or to excuse oneself from its precepts is to speak evil of the truth. Just remember when you think it is too difficult to apply the truth, many Christians died for it. Are you willing to die for the truth? Are you willing to “suffer” a little? Are you willing to sacrifice for the truth? Jesus did.

But the most popular excuse given in not following the truth is that it is different from the ways of parents or grandparents. But what was revealed to them is all that they will be judged upon. For ourselves, we are told, “be established in the present truth” (2 Peter 1:12). And what happens if one does not want to be established in present truth but continue in their parent’s way? “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins” (Hebrews 10:26). And keep in mind that parents do not save. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

It is our prayer for each to be a Christian warrior girt about the loins with truth, and by the grace of God, to have a love for Jesus, His Word, and His Law.

Did you know that strawberries are low in calories and very high in vitamin C? In fact, ounce for ounce, they are a better source of vitamin C than oranges are.

Strawberries are also a good source of folate, potassium and a useful source of riboflavin and iron. The seeds in strawberries provide insoluble fiber. Strawberries also are a good source of pectin and other soluble fibers that help lower cholesterol and they provide anticancer bioflavonoids.

Shop for medium-size, bright red berries with healthy green tops. They may be stored whole in the refrigerator for a few days. Sliced berries gradually lose their vitamin C. To avoid molding, wash the fruit just before serving it.

Those allergic to aspirin may also be allergic to strawberries as they contain a common compound. They also contain oxalic acid, which can aggravate kidney and bladder stones in susceptible people.

HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE RECIPE:

Fresh Strawberry Pie: Adjusted from “Country Life”

4 c fresh strawberries, cut in quarters lengthwise
¾ c chopped fresh strawberries
1 1/3 c apple juice concentrate
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
6 Tbsp arrowroot (or cornstarch)
Wash and stem 3 pints of strawberries. Cut 4 c of berries lengthwise into quarters and set aside. Chop another ¾ c of berries and put into blender. Add remaining ingredients and blend on high for 15-20 seconds. Pour into saucepan. Cook on medium-high, stirring constantly until thick. Remove from heat and gently fold in berries with a rubber spatula. Place in baked pie shell and shape. Chill. Top with your favorite Soy whipped cream or additional strawberries. Yield: 1 - 9” pie.

Practical Applications for Character Development in Children

Cultivating Mercy

“He hath shewed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” (Micah 6:8)

Definition of Mercy: “But the mercy of the LORD [is] from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children.” (Psalms 103:17) Mercy includes the attributes of tolerance, tenderness, giving and forgiving more than was expected towards the one who wronged you.

Replace Evil with Good - (Romans 12:21): When you see a lack of mercy on the part of your child, encourage him to be merciful by helping him to fully understand both sides of the situation. Help him to put himself in the other person’s place and remind him of the golden rule - to treat others as he would want to be treated. Remind him of how loving and merciful our heavenly Father was to Adam and Eve as well as to us all.

Example in Ourselves - Mercy is one of the easiest attributes to cultivate, as well as one of the easiest to show by example. How do you treat the children and how do you treat others? Most especially, how do you treat the poor, the disabled, those of different nationality, or of different skin color? Children are not born prejudice, they learn it from those around them.

Prayer - There are so very many Bible examples of mercy that the children can learn from. In addition to you praying for your children, it will help the children develop mercy towards others if they are taught to always pray for those who have wronged them or who are less fortunate and to pray that the Lord will help them to be merciful towards all.

Some Ways to Cultivate Mercy:

Teach them how God has made us each uniquely and in some cases very differently and yet He loves each one.

Help them to learn how to turn what appears to be “curses” into “blessings” so that they can not only be merciful to those who are less fortunate than they but can also be an encouragement. Remember, life is full of advantages and disadvantages. Happiness is determined by which side you focus on.

Encourage them to pray for others.

Encourage your child to think of others before themselves and to always be looking for ways to make the other person happy. Making a card or a special surprise is a nice way to encourage this.

Discourage your child from any form of complaining, whining, fussing, sulking, pouting, etc. Help them to see how truly blessed they are. Allowing such behavior only destroys mercy towards others as they focus on themselves in complaint. If verbal encouragement does not cause this behavior to cease, have them spend some time apart from the family (ex. in their room) until they have surrendered their heart to Jesus and thereby are willing to make it a happy home.

When a child complains in any form, immediately encourage them to offer a thank you prayer for what they were complaining about. Example - “Why did it have to be raining today, I wanted to ride my bike?” “Dear, lets thank Jesus for the much needed rain for it will help the trees and flowers to grow so beautifully.”

CNN, February 11, 2002 - Goofy galaxy spins in wrong direction

A galaxy captured by the camera of the Hubble Space Telescope seems to be rotating in the direction opposite of what it should, astonished astronomers announced this week.

"It is pretty clear that there are both clockwise and counter-clockwise spiral arms, so something funny is going on," Noll said.

COMMENT: When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? AP, February 11, 2002 - China Accused of Torture, Killings in Crackdown on Unregistered Christians

Chinese authorities have killed 129 people and arrested nearly 24,000 in a crackdown on Christian churches that operate outside government control, a group of Chinese religious activists said Monday.

COMMENT: Here is a sample of what will eventually fulfill Jesus' words: "Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake." (Matthew 24:9)

ABC, February 7, 2002 - Shooting Outside Chicago School

Three people were shot outside a Chicago high school today in an apparent gang-related incident, authorities said.

COMMENT: "Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because [there is] no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." (Hosea 4:1-2, 6)

AP, February 6, 2002 - Rare rain turns deadly in Lima

Rain is extremely rare in Lima, a shantytown-ringed city of 8 million people that sits in a narrow coastal desert. The rain this week was the heaviest rain to hit the Lima area in 32 years, said Ena Jaimes, a weather expert at the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service.

COMMENT: "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring" (Luke 21:25). Or one could say that nature will be doing the extremely rare things.

MSNBC, February 4, 2002 - Pediatricians endorse gay adoption

The American Academy of Pediatrics has endorsed homosexual adoption, saying gay couples can provide the loving, stable and emotionally healthy family lives that children need.

COMMENT: As for religious upbringing however, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination" (Leviticus 18:22).

MSNBC, February 1, 2002 - Fetus reclassified as ‘unborn child’

In a move that alarmed abortion-rights supporters, the Bush Administration said Thursday the developing fetus may be classified as an “unborn child” eligible for government health care, giving low-income women access to prenatal care.

COMMENT: How does the Bible classify what is in the womb? "For the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb" (Judges 13:5 and 13:7). "As thou knowest not what [is] the way of the spirit, [nor] how the bones [do grow] in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all." (Ecclesiastes 11:5).

ABC, February 1, 2002 - Kids Lose Mother After Dad Died Sept. 11

A 35-year-old woman whose husband died in the World Trade Center collapse has died of breast cancer, orphaning the couple's two young sons.

"I guess we'll tell them Mommy and Daddy are in heaven and they love them, they are together and they will always be there watching them," Kneff told the Daily News in today's editions.

COMMENT: How can heaven be blissful if the parents will be able to see their children missing their parents? "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun" (Ecclesiastes 9:5-6).

CBN, February 1, 2002 - Satanists Sentenced in Germany for Sacrificing a Human

The two confessed to the killing, saying they acted on the orders of Satan. The Rudas say the devil told them "to send him a human sacrifice because he wanted a court jester." The prosecutor in the case says the couple believed in and worshiped Satan.

COMMENT: Can Satan really use a court jester? "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest" (Ecclesiastes 9:10).

Fox, February 1, 2002 - Opposition to Condoms at Olympics

A decision to give away complimentary condoms at the Olympic Village has irked some Christian conservatives.

COMMENT: Should not all Christians be irked? The sole purpose of the give away is to permit fornication between countries. "When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand" (Ezekiel 3:18). And if you do not think God has not told you, "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

COMMENT: If that is what that game is like, maybe Christians should not be involved in such games. The Bible does not plainly state that Christians should not be involved in such sports, however, consider these things. Jesus taught, "But whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also" (Matthew 5:39). But that is not what hockey teaches as well as many other sports. Also, "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour" (Exodus 20:16). But is that not what sports is all about? They try to deceive the opponent. We are not saying that sports are forbidden, however, there is a godly way and an ungodly way. Which do you think the popular version is?

AP, January 28, 2002 - Popular Bible to become gender-neutral

The International Bible Society said Monday that America's best-selling modern Bible is about to get an update using gender-neutral wording, despite past criticism of that idea from conservatives.

The revision will be called "Today's New International Version," or TNIV. The original "New International Version," which has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide since 1978, will remain on the market.

"This is incredibly serious to evangelicals, how the Bible is translated," Stinson said. "We believe the Bible is the word of God, so changing these things deliberately is dangerous."

A publicity release says "the TNIV is not merely a gender-accurate edition of the NIV," because 70 percent of the changes do not relate to gender. Also, terms referring to God and Jesus Christ have not been altered.

COMMENT: By making the Bible gender-neutral, it loses the Jesus application. Throughout the Bible, the firstborn son is recognized more than any other son or a daughter. The reason is that it exemplified that Jesus would be the first begotten into the world of the Father (Hebrews 1:1-6). “First” in this context refers to the fact that He (Jesus) was the most important seeing that many others have been brought into the world and even died before Jesus was born. And by the way, first begotten of the Father does not mean Jesus is a created being, but that is a study of it's own. Also, consider what they are doing. “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye” (Mark 7:13).

CNS, January 28, 2002 - Florida town casts out Satan

"Satan, ruler of darkness, giver of evil, destroyer of what is good and just, is not now, nor ever again will be, a part of this town of Inglis," Mayor Carolyn Risher says in a proclamation, which was issued on official town stationery.

Risher said the events of September 11 inspired her to pursue the proclamation, which the Town Commission supports.

"If our churches band together and pray, our nation and our town can be a godly nation and a godly town," she said.

The American Civil Liberties Union says the proclamation clearly violates the separation of church and state.

COMMENT: The mayor realizes "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12). However, the constitution does protect against such action especially under such conditions. In other words, here is one of the few times that the ACLU is correct. If it were not on official town stationery the mayor would not be wrong despite the fact that she is still a public employee.

ABC News, January 24, 2001 - Lawyer Says Patriotism Motivated Killing

The lawyer for a Queens film producer charged with fatally stabbing and dismembering an Afghan-American filmmaker said Wednesday that his client was motivated in part by patriotism after the terrorist attacks.

COMMENT: This is the uncontrolled patriotism that will be more prevalent at the end of time. "And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed." ANSWERS TO LAST MONTH’S STUDY:

Who or what is Leviathan? (Isaiah 27:1)

1. What action is associated with piercing? Proverbs 12:18 “There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise [is] health.”

2. By what action was Eve beguiled? Genesis 3:1, 3:4 “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die”

3. Who or what is the serpent? Revelation 20:2 “And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years.”

4. Who or what is the dragon? Revelation 12:9 “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

ANSWERS FOUND IN THE SCRIPTURE OF TRUTH (Daniel 10:21)
Question #1 - Harrisburg, PA - In the main article of December, it appears that a cherub and an angel are one in the same. If that is so, why would God make a distinction? Should we not continue that distinction and not lump them together?

Answer #1 - Lucifer, who is better known as the devil or Satan, was grouped in with the angels in the December 2001 issue of the newsletter despite specifically being referred to as a cherub because from the descriptions revealed in the Bible, it seems that a cherub is an angel but with more responsibility. No ordinary angel guarded the garden, the mercy seat, and the throne of God. So a cherub would be a high-ranking angel.

It is like the term guards but there is a big difference between the National Guard and the Secret Service guarding the President. But we would not make such connection if the Bible did not give us more to go on. “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). The Bible states that Satan, who was a covering cherub, can appear as a good angel (“angel of light”) meaning right now he is an evil angel. If the verse were to merely state that Satan is able to appear as an angel versus a cherub, it would have not included the words “of light”. The contrast therefore in 2 Corinthians 11:14 is between his current state of an angel of darkness and that of an angel of light.

Question #2 - Harrisburg, PA - What is the eighth beast in Revelation 17:11?

Answer #2 - And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, [and] the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.” We see that there are seven kings and then all of a sudden there is an eighth one. To identify the eighth one we are told it is one of the other seven. Understanding who the seven kings are would provide the answer, however, for that detail, we invite you to request our free studies on the Seven Heads of Revelation 17. But in short, we are given one more piece of info to help us.

Notice the eighth beast was, is not, and is. In other words, it would go through a process of living, dying, and coming back to life again. Further, it is not by chance that there are seven references to kings and their kingdoms in Revelation using a beast as a symbol. There is one beast of interest because he goes through the process of living, dying, and coming back to life. Revelation 13:3 says, “And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.”

So the conclusion is that the eighth beast in Revelation 17:11 is a reference to the Antichrist.

Question #3 - Harrisburg, PA - What does Psalms 37:13 mean when God laughed?

Answer #3 - Reading in context, Psalms 37:12-15 “The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, [and] to slay such as be of upright conversation. Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.” What these verses reveal is that the wicked think they have the upper hand doing as they please. Now you and I know differently. God, with His thousands of ways, can wipe the wicked from the face of the earth in an instant.

The laugh is in that context and even according to the Bible Lexicon is in mock and not an entertaining laugh.

WHAT DOES YOUR VERSION SAY?
Who Married the Daughters of Men?

According to Genesis 6:2 it says, "That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they [were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose." Are these sons of God angels, aliens, or human beings?

The New Living Translation implies that they were not human beings. “the sons of God saw the beautiful women of the human race and took any they wanted as their wives.” All other versions simply state similar to the King James Version where it was “Sons of God” marrying “Daughters of Men”.

Is the New Living Translation more accurate in implying that it is not of the human race? Some rare translations have stated the words “aliens”, “fallen angels”, “good angels”, and similar wording. What is the answer?

The key word is wives. One characteristic that we know of angels is what Jesus told us in Mark 12:25 "For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven." Taking the Bible as it reads without assumption, we see that angels do not marry so that eliminates angels.

In regards to aliens, in all eight cases in the Bible, alien always referred to human beings outside of some boundary or territory.

So that leaves human beings. But is there a "Thus Saith the Lord" that a human being can be a son of God? John 1:12-13 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." Also Romans 8:14 reinstates this fact, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."

So godly men were taking ungodly women as wives. Any translation that implies or states that it cannot be humans marrying humans would be in error.
