IN THE BEGINNING . . . (John 1:1)

As we at "Thus Saith the Lord. . ." Ministries, Inc. embark on our first issue of what we hope will become a monthly newsletter, we are reminded of the words found in the opening statement of the Gospel of John: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). In our first issue, not only do we want to introduce ourselves, but we also want to remind all of us that to be a follower of Jesus (Matthew 16:24) is to follow the Word (John 8:31).

By now you are probably wondering who is "Thus Saith the Lord. . ." Ministries, Inc. Officially via Federal Form 1023 (Application for Recognition of Exemption) as well as other Federal and Pennsylvania State forms, we are not affiliated with a church nor are we a church. We are a non-profit tax exempt entity. Our purpose at the Ministry is to encourage a diligent study of God’s Word as never has been before. Further, we assist in the proper study of God’s Word as defined in Isaiah 28:10, For precept [must be] upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, [and] there a little. We pray that this newsletter will be one avenue to help fulfill our intentions. It is our desire that each issue contain five primary components: main article, Bible study section, question and answer section, health topic, and Antichrist lesson.

The main article will contain many Bible quotes so as to allow the Bible to speak for itself. This we feel makes our newsletter stand out from any other newsletter. Many religious magazines have as many quotes in fifty pages as what you will get here in a mere three or four pages, i.e., there will be less of a human perspective and more of a Godly perspective. The main article may incorporate topics addressed in the Bible Study section from previous months so as to elaborate on the focus of that study, but typically it will address issues that an article is best for elaborating upon.

The Bible study section will be you and the Bible. Yes, a Bible is required. If you need a Bible, feel free to call us, and we will mail one out to you. This section consists of a series of questions with Bible references for you to look up. A concordance may also be desirable but not necessary.

The question and answer section will address religious questions with of course Biblical responses. We encourage you to send in your questions keeping in mind that if more questions are asked than what we have room for, we will simply hold them until the following issues, but they will be addressed.

The health topic will address principles that are found either in the Bible or are reported in the news and are in accordance with the Bible. This section is based on the verse found in 3 John 1:2, Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. God cares that we would have both our minds and body prosper. What a caring God (1 Peter 5:7) we serve who is full of compassion (Psalms 86:15).

Finally, there is the Antichrist lesson which probably has your curiosity by now. Why devote a monthly section on the Antichrist? Well, as John revealed "as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists (1 John 2:18)," it is our sincere belief that at least the affects of the "many antichrists" of John’s time are felt even today for they went out from us, but they were not of us (1 John 2:19). These antichrists taught doctrines that were not what the Apostles taught commonly referred to as heresies (But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, 2 Peter 2:1). Unfortunately, those heresies did not die back then but rather have become more perfected. Warnings appear throughout the writings of the early church, for example, if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine (1 Timothy 1:10), If any man teach otherwise, . . . from such withdraw thyself (1 Timothy 6:3-5), If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into [your] house, neither bid him God speed (2 John 1:10). These heresies that crept into the early church is what is setting up the specific Antichrist. Unless we are made aware of the identity of the Antichrist, we all may be deceived. For if we know who the Antichrist is, we may be aware of the false teachings and forsake them.

If the Antichrist is soon to appear, shouldn’t we be able to see signs being fulfilled now revealing who it is? If the Antichrist already has come, shouldn’t we be aware of the erroneous teachings handed down to our generation? If the Antichrist is not to appear for several more life times yet, shouldn’t we at least be concerned about those earlier heresies which may still be active today? Our belief is a resounding YES! So each month, we will address one identifying mark of the Antichrist and allow you to determine, who the Antichrist is for yourself. Also remember, to follow the Antichrist or especially any of its teachings, no matter how good we think we are, our names will not be written in the book of life and we will be lost (Revelation 13:8).

Other articles and subjects may appear from time to time in our newsletter as deemed necessary, however, those are the five main components that will appear from issue to issue. We will attempt to keep the newsletter as informative as possible, yet we will try to keep it as compact as possible so that reading it does not become a burden but a joy.

Again, remember our goal which is to get as many people interested in studying the Bible for themselves, and for those who are already studying the Bible, that this will encourage even further study of God’s Word.

SEARCHING THE SCRIPTURES (John 5:39)

HOW TO GAIN VICTORY ON THE NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION

On average, a New Year’s resolution will last only two weeks. We hope that you will not wait until 1999 to start your next resolution but rather begin again now. The reason most resolutions fail so quickly is because people try to gain the victory in their own strength. Complete the study to receive useful tips in gaining the victory. May we also remind you that spiritual things are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14) which is a reminder for you to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth (John 16:13).

1. What is the first step in gaining victory over a habit? 2 Corinthians 8:12

 

2. Is gaining the victory a matter of just gritting our teeth and doing what we need to do to beat the habit? 1 Corinthians 15:57

 

3. What mental image should we portray during the strongest moments of temptation? Romans 6:11

 

4. When temptation is at its strongest, what should I have done ahead of time so as to not give into the temptation? Romans 13:14

 

5. What must we have if victory is going to occur over the habit? Matthew 14:29-30, 1 John 4:4

 

6. What do we do if we fail and give into temptation? 1 John 2:1-2

YE HAVE HEARD THAT ANTICHRIST SHALL COME (1 John 2:18)

Since John told us and we even hear today that Antichrist shall come (1 John 2:18), we thought it would be wise to lay up knowledge (Proverbs 10:14) in this area and study (2 Timothy 2:15) the identifying marks so as to be ready (Matthew 24:44).

FIRST IDENTIFYING MARK (picked at random):

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

The Antichrist is identified as denying Jesus Christ. Immediately the world looks for a non-Christian to be the Antichrist such as Sadam Hussein or Boris Yeltsin or the like. Some will even pin the title on a person that is simply worldly but powerful such as Ronald Reagan or Bill Gates or the like. But what is meant by denying Jesus? The Bible reveals in Titus 1:16, They profess that they know God; but in works they deny [him].

Could the Antichrist actually be a professing Christian? Could it be a Christian who speaks properly of Jesus Christ? Could it be that the Antichrist isn’t to be judged upon the words but rather the actions (works)?

Keep in mind that Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Satan himself even worshipped God and is still able to do so today as long as it achieves his goals.

So our first identifying mark is that the Antichrist would deny Jesus is the Christ either by words, actions, or both. &

THAT THOU MAYEST PROSPER AND BE IN HEALTH, EVEN AS THY SOUL PROSPERETH (3 John 1:2)

The following article appeared via ABC News on September 9, 1997 which promotes an alternative to alcohol drinking yet providing the blood thinning agent that was thought to be present only in alcohol.]

PEANUTS LABELED HEALTH FOOD

The U.S. Department of Agriculture researchers are reporting that peanuts contain the same heart-healthy chemical believed responsible for the beneficial effects of red wine. It is the newest in a slew of discoveries suggesting that nuts are healthy food.

Sanders and his associates reported that edible peanuts contain hefty amounts of a natural compound called resveratrol. They are with the USDA's Agricultural Research Center in Raleigh, N. C.

Scientists believe that resveratrol is at least partly responsible for protecting wine drinkers from heart attacks. Studies have established that people who drink a glass of wine or two a day reduce their risk of heart attacks, America's No. 1 killer. The heart-healthy effect is especially strong for red wines, which contain large amounts of resveratrol.

In January, researchers from the University of Illinois reported that resveratrol also has a powerful anti-cancer effect in test-tube experiments.

Substantial amount of resveratrol previously had been detected in only a few foods, including grapes and mulberries. Sanders believes that the compound, which is a natural chemical, probably exists in other nuts and other foods, as well.

Sanders' group reported that a 1-ounce serving of peanuts contains about 73 micrograms of resveratrol. An ounce of a typical red wine contains about 160 micrograms of the compound.

One six-year study, . . . found that people who consumed nuts five times a week had 50 percent fewer heart attacks. People who ate nuts just once a week had 25 percent fewer heart attacks than those who avoided nuts entirely.

Nuts. . . are a good source of protein, dietary fiber, vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, and copper.

Peanuts, he noted, are high in fat. But they contain a form of fat, termed monosaturated fat, that helps to reduce total blood cholesterol levels. Still, the fat means calories, and Sanders said people should eat them in moderation. &

ANSWER #1 The newsletter is copyrighted, however, to copyright the contents in the strictest sense, we feel is like copyrighting Jesus which we cannot. We truly believe these are God’s Words and not our own, so the short of it is, feel free to make copies of our newsletter and distribute freely which we appreciate and encourage because it will keep our costs down.
